Bespoke Leather Desk Blotter with removable insert

We produced bespoke leather blotters for Firmdale Hotels in dark brown Safia Leather with a dark brown suede lining

Description of product

On a wooden base with 25mm hole, 40mm from top edge for easy access. Finished with two 70mm leather side panels, and two 20mm leather strips top and bottom.

Includes a removable insert W455mm x H255mm with four 70mm leather corners on one side and full soft leather on the reverse side.

FUN FACT

They originally used the tanning process to make the skin’s outer ‘grain’ side look great.

But guess what?

They figured out that even the skins with messed-up grain sides could be turned into something cool – suede! They just had to process the underside and wear it inside-out. That’s how suede leather got its start!

We can design high-quality blotters to fit your exact specifications, made to measure.

This one-off luxury desk blotter was commissioned by our client, for their private study. They gave us the specific paper size and we created this beautiful product to ensure it was measured to perfection.

With this at your reception desk we can guarantee your guests will recognise they are in a classy establishment and know they’ve made the right choice for a most excellent visit.

PS : We can also provide personalised paper and pads.

Description of product

Oversized A3 Blotter, on wooden 9mm chamfered plinth base W570 x W390mm, with 65mm panels on top, left-hand and right-hand sides.

Produced in premium quality Shelly Blue Calf Leather with 9mm padded panels and a soft-touch nuba lining

We carefully source the best wood from our local timber merchants and our expert in-house carpenter cuts to size.

We store a large stock of various grades of leathers to suit a wide-ranging colour palette. Our knowledgeable team will guide you to select the perfect leather for the job.

It takes a steady and firm hand to skive the leather to the exact thickness required. It’s not for the feint-hearted, as sparks fly as the ultra-sharp blade spins at breakneck speeds!

We hand cut our finest leathers to reduce waste, avoiding blemishes and deep creases.

You can be assured your products pass our vigilant quality controls.

It’s the attention to detail that sets us apart. Corners are hand turned, leaving a crisp, smooth edge.

It’s hard to see the actual size of the finished product; could you guess that an A3 piece of paper nestles snugly between the panels.

FUN FACT

Blotting paper is reported to be a serendipitous discovery, when during manufacture of writing paper in the 18th century, a worker missed a step and the discarded paper was found to absorb the ink.

Calf Leather A5 Menu Cover with interscrew fitment

Echo Studios approached us in March 2023 to produce a new menu cover for one of their clients.

After a few conversations and pictures of products and swatches emailed back and forth, we sent out a returnable product sample with leather swatches for client review. The order details were finalised and agreed in early June and the completed order left our workshop within four weeks.

Our Highland Calf Leather is stored on rolls, to prevent creases. We roll out fully to quality check prior to storing.

We hand cut the leather to reduce wastage. Any scraps are used for swatches and during testing procedures.

The creation of an interscrew fitment is a precise and lengthy process. We hold various cutters and punches for consistency.

Our antique clicker press still accomplishes its duty, ironing out the finished product.

Final quality check; we carefully stack and pack the finished product, ready for despatch.

This one passed, but any not up to standard are rejected and kept in our extensive library for future reference.

FUN FACT

We appreciate that it takes a collaboration of team members to sign off a new product, so we wait patiently in the background, until you or your client are ready to move forward to the next stage.
